Thousands found nothing but fruitless hard work and literally lost their shirts.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m seeing an analogous &#8220;Higgs Rush&#8221; &#8211; the current mad dash to publish a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosmologyscience.com\/glossary.htm#PhysicsTheory\">theory<\/a>&#8221; (they are really at best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosmologyscience.com\/glossary.htm#Hypothesis\">only hypotheses<\/a>) before anyone else does &#8211; no matter how disconnected it may be to bedrock physics.<\/p>\n<p>Its exciting to have a <a href=\"http:\/\/cosmologyscience.com\/cosblog\/did-cern-find-a-higgs-well-not-quite-but-they-probably-found-a-new-particle-and-extended-their-funding-for-years\/\">new particle show up<\/a>, but its not a Higgs yet.<\/p>\n<p>Yet even though the head of one of the CERN &#8220;Higgs&#8221; experiments has said clearly<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/docmadhattan.fieldofscience.com\/2012\/07\/joe-incandela-talks-about-new-boson.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DocMadhattan+%28Doc+Madhattan%29\">&#8220;We don&#8217;t know if its a Higgs boson.&#8221; (Joe Incandela, CERN CMS Experiment Leader)<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>now articles are showing up wholly based on the false assumption that a Higgs particle has been established !<div id=\"attachment_4869\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151017062108\/http:\/\/bumblemumble.bigcartel.com:80\/product\/hugs-bison-shirt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4869\" class=\" wp-image-4869 \" title=\"Hugs Bison\" src=\"http:\/\/cosmologyscience.com\/cosblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/hugsbison.png\" alt=\"Hugs Bison\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cosmologyscience.com\/cosblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/hugsbison.png 500w, https:\/\/cosmologyscience.com\/cosblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/hugsbison-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cosmologyscience.com\/cosblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/hugsbison-300x300.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4869\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hugs Bison<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Before we try to explain something, we should be sure it actually happened.&#8221; &#8211;Ray Hyman<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s one &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn22048-what-if-we-could-split-the-higgs-boson.html\">What if we could split the Higgs boson?<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maybe false media headlines are responsible &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn22014-celebrations-as-higgs-boson-is-finally-discovered.html\">Celebrations as Higgs boson is finally discovered<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What ever happened to responsibility and physical reality in physics ?<\/p>\n<p>Sure its exciting to have a new particle show up, but really ?<\/p>\n<p>Further reading:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/skeptophilia.blogspot.com\/2012\/07\/higgs-boson-uncertainty-and-scientific.html\">The Higgs boson, uncertainty, and the scientific method<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the entire passage from Mark Twain<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In the space of one hundred and seventy-six years the Lower Mississippi has shortened itself two hundred and forty-two miles.
